Wine Description for Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 3000ml Double Magnum from Le Chiuse

Character
Le Chiuse belongs to the authentic, artisanal producers in Montalcino – a small estate that places tradition and terroir above modernism. This Brunello in the impressive double magnum format represents the classical school: elegant rather than opulent, structured rather than accommodating. The 2020 vintage brought concentrated wines to Tuscany with vibrant acidity and precise fruit – ideal for the long-lived Sangiovese grape.
Terroir & Origin
Montalcino sits south of Siena on a hilltop that benefits from Mediterranean climate and cool night temperatures. The soils – a mixture of galestro stone and clay – lend the Sangiovese Grosso here that mineral tension and structure which distinguishes Brunello from other Tuscan wines. Le Chiuse manages its vineyards in traditional fashion, with low yields and respectful treatment of nature.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sangiovese Grosso, the local clone variant, is the heart of every Brunello. The grape demands patience: it ripens late, develops complex cherry and herbal aromas, shows pronounced tannins and an acidity structure that permits decades of ageing. Le Chiuse vinifies classically – extended maceration times, maturation in large Slavonian oak casks, no cosmetic interventions. The large format of the double magnum furthermore guarantees a particularly harmonious, slow development over the years.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This Brunello demands substantial cuisine: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragù or braised lamb shoulder with rosemary. It also shows its class alongside aged Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano Reggiano. The tannins and acidity cut through fatty dishes, whilst the earthy, spicy notes harmonise with truffle dishes and mushroom risotto. A wine for the patient connoisseur – or the special occasion.
