Wine description for Bonnaventure AOC 2019 from Château de Coulaine
Colour & appearance
Seductive cherry red colour with youthful intensity, which has elegantly integrated the four years of bottle ageing.
Nose
A textbook example of Chinon-Cabernet Franc: The nose unites dark cherries and Cassis with the characteristic Loire minerality of crushed flint and a hint of smoke. Garden herbs, Thyme and Juniper give the bouquet an appetising spiciness, while a salty note underlines the complexity.
Palate
On the palate, the Bonnaventure is round and juicy with an impressive structure. The ripe, dark fruits are carried by fine, well-integrated tannins that give the wine backbone without dominating. Dark chocolate, Forest soil and Undergrowth create depth, while graphite and stone emphasise the cool elegance of the Loire minerality. The lively acidity keeps everything in balance, a salty finish has a mouth-watering effect and prolongs the finish considerably.
General information
From a 2.8-hectare plot directly behind Château de Coulaine, this Cabernet Franc grows on a south-facing plateau with yellow tufa and grey sand. Maturation in 60-hectolitre cuves and four years of ageing have given the wine a remarkable balance and structure.
Food pairing suggestions
Perfect for Pork tenderloin with mangoes, pepper and porcini mushrooms, stuffed pigeon with bacon and cherries or Green lentils with sun-dried tomatoes and olives. The earthy notes harmonise perfectly with game dishes and mature cheeses.
Special features
An authentic Chinon that perfectly reflects the terroir characteristics. Four years of ageing have turned this Cabernet Franc into an accessible but characterful wine that epitomises both the fruitiness and mineral complexity of the Loire region.
