Info

The Val do Salnés is considered the finest origin for Albariño in Galicia. The soils consist of granite entisols with a sandy-loamy character. The vineyards are orientated to the west and face the Atlantic Ocean. The age of the vines is estimated at 35 years.

Harvest by hand in 15kg crates, manual selection and then completely destemmed in the press. Alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously, but temperature-regulated at 12-15°C. Xion is then allowed to mature on the lees in steel tanks for four months. The yeast is repeatedly stirred by means of battonage.

Nose

Compared to previous years, 2022 Xión Albariño appears significantly less fruit-intensive. Fortunately, it was able to shake off its wild exoticism. Today it knows how to convince me noticeably. Ripe pear, peach and apricot pour out of the glass. Grapefruit and lime provide fresh accents. However, its floral side is more prominent. Orange and apple blossom are omnipresent on the nose alongside jasmine. The flowers find sparring partners in a little roasted almond and a fine ethereal freshness. The latter is based on eucalyptus and mint, but remains shyly in the quiet corner. Some orange juice and khaki fruit round it off very successfully.

Palate

This Galician model is also in top form on the palate. It is characterised by freshness and clarity. It keeps the fruit in check. Its cool accents, its associations with the Atlantic, its tart freshness and its almost salty character are noticeable. The fruit is juicy and compact behind it. The fruit unfolds fully in yellow and becomes noticeably more intense with time. The moderate but present acidity skilfully counteracts this time and again. The floral nuances also have a wonderful effect on the finish.
