Wine information

The Mandelberg is located southwest of Birkweiler and only 500 meters from the Kastanienbusch. The parcels used for the wine are located at about 250 meters above sea level and are oriented southeast. The elevation that runs from the Hohenberg to the Rauhberg is a fault of the Rhine Graben with Rotliegendem from the Permian and Buntsandstein, Muschelkalk and Keuper from the Triassic. The Pinot Blanc is mainly grown in shell limestone, which is interspersed with clay and is somewhat deeper than the comparable Im Sonnenschein site. The wine was aged in stainless steel after slow pressing and spontaneous fermentation.

Color

light to medium straw yellow

Nose

The Pinot Blanc Mandelberg GG appears more herbaceous on the nose and also somewhat more tobaccoic than its sibling In the sunshine. The wine's youth is evident in a rubbery note that is still slightly reductive but fades quite quickly, as well as yeasty notes that bring a bit of sweetness to the nose.

Mouth

Even if the Mandelberg still has to find at this point, it already seems very mature, profound and complex with a comparatively cool fruit and a phenolic grip on the palate. The almost sensual acidity brings a pleasant pressure to the palate despite the maturity, and the Pinot Blanc seems fresh, clear and slightly salty and spicy in the finish.
