Wine description for Volnay 1er Cru "Sous la Chapelle" AOC 2021 from Chavy-Chouet

Colour & appearance

Bright ruby red with cherry-coloured reflections, characteristic of the elegance of Volnay. The wine shows a medium intensity and crystalline clarity in the glass.

Nose

A seductive bouquet of red cherries and Raspberries initially unfolds, accompanied by subtle floral notes of violet flowers. Over time, spicy accents of white pepper and a fine minerality reminiscent of crushed limestone. The Burgundian elegance is evident in the delicate hints of Rose petals and a touch of Forest floor.

Palate

On the palate, this Volnay Premier Cru presents itself with impressive finesse and structure. The silky tannins envelop the palate, while a lively acidity provides freshness and tension. Flavours of red currants and Sour cherries dominate, supported by subtle spicy notes and a mineral precision that reflects Romaric Chavy's clear style. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% lends the wine elegance without heaviness.

General information

This Premier Cru from the protected "Sous la Chapelle" vineyard epitomises typical Volnay elegance. Romaric Chavy, who has managed the 15-hectare vineyard since 2006, vinifies this Pinot Noir in his characteristically unadulterated style, which emphasises clarity and minerality.
