Wine description for Savigny-Les-Beaune „Aux Fourneaux“ rouge AOC 2020 by Chandon de Briailles
- Colour & Appearance
- Medium cherry red with vibrant luminosity that underscores the youthfulness of this Pinot Noir.
- Nose
- Seductively open and inviting, this 2020 presents itself with captivating aromatics. Ripe sweet cherries dominate, playfully accompanied by dark biscuit dough and vanilla notes. These are joined by cinnamon, ground chicory, forest berries and plums, rounded off by a hint of sweet yeast. An aroma that brings immediate pleasure.
- Palate
- On the palate, pure hedonism unfolds: juicy, silky and carried by ripe dark fruit. Vanilla and warm whole milk chocolate caress the tongue, whilst a strand of cool acidity and vibrant minerality provides tension and balance. The tannins are soft and elegant, never intrusive. This successful balance between dark warmth and cool freshness makes the wine a pleasure to drink already now – with considerable ageing potential.
- Finish
- Elegant and lingering with persistent fruit and fine mineral precision.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Premier Cru vineyard site Aux Fourneaux in Savigny-lès-Beaune delivers year after year accessible, charming wines from Chandon de Briailles. The 1.68-hectare parcel with vines over 60 years old is oriented eastward on clayey, deep soil with limestone in the upper part. Since 2018, the wine has been marketed without the Premier Cru designation, as some of the grapes used come from the basic village appellation.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Pinot Noir with whole-bunch fermentation in wooden vats, spontaneously fermented. Aged for approximately 18 months in barrels and tonneaux with minimal new oak, without racking. Bottled directly from the barrel with minimal sulphiting – an authentic, unfiltered Burgundy.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Braised veal chops with almonds, carrots and beetroot, sweet potato gratin with bacon and cashew nuts, roasted mixed carrots with star anise and butter, but also with duck, game birds or aged Comté.
- Special Characteristics
- An accessible, sensual Burgundy that bears the hallmark of Chandon de Briailles: authentic, terroir-driven and already a pleasure in its youth – without sacrificing its ageing potential.
