Wine information

The Bret brothers acquired this beautiful property of about 1.5 hectares in 2016. It faces north on the slopes of a valley below the Roche de Vergisson. The soils of limestone marl and light clay are ideal for Chardonnay. Despite the cooler terroir, the grapes reach a beautiful ripeness. The harvest took place on 24 and 25 September 2021. The Chardonnay was pressed as a whole cluster and fermented spontaneously. It then matured for just under a year at 80 % in cuves and at 20 % in up to ten-year-old Pièces. Malolactic fermentation followed. The total sulphur is 30 mg/l, the pH value is 3.15.

Nose

The 2021 La Combe DesRoches is a classic, rather citrusy wine, the likes of which have hardly been seen in the glass for some years. It is reminiscent of white flowers, lemon juice and peel with mint and dissolved lime. There are also some warmer notes of nashi pears and white peaches.

Palate

On the palate, the rather cool, citrusy light impression is confirmed. The Chardonnay brings a remarkable trace of acids and salts to the palate. There is an immediate impulse to swallow and ask for more. Cool and stony, but nevertheless charming, the Saint-Véran with its fine, slightly creamy texture and lively minerality. In the finish, the peach and pear notes provide juice, while the citrus and tart spicy influences determine the drinking flow.
