The Tenuta di Castellaro is located on a plateau on Lipari, the largest Aeolian island north of Sicily. The temperate, windy climate and the influence of the sea characterise the microclimate of the Piana di Castellaro, which benefits from the strong temperature amplitudes between day and night. The volcanic soils are rich in minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium, giving the wines their particular texture, structure and longevity. The vines are in single-pole training with 7000 cane density.

Rosa Caolino is a cuvée of Corinto Nero and other indigenous grape varieties, grown on sandy, volcanic, deep and fertile soils at 350 metres above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand, pressed directly and then separated from the lees to clarify the must. Spontaneous fermentation took place in steel at 16-18 degrees inox with battonage and and six months of fine lees contact.

Nose

The nose of the 2022 Rosa Caolino from Tenuta di Castellaro is surprisingly powerful, with clear must notes at the start, followed by expansive floral notes of mallow, hibiscus and pink lilies with their intense bouquet. The entire claviature of red-fruity aromas follows, from berries to stone fruit. The setting is late afternoon, when the sun bathes the houses in orange light and has reached its full heat. At this moment, a warm, salty breeze blows in from the sea....

Mouth

The palate is gripping with uncompromising dry fruit and tart phenolic on the tongue. Pressurised with good tension, this is not a terrace smooch, but a serious wine whose fun potential goes far beyond the aperitif. Red apple, melon and tangerine mix the fruit cocktail, floral accents turn the flavour wheel, fired by the ripe, juicy acidity. With its creamy texture and expansive aromatics, it has a lot of everything without being exhausting.
