Wine profile
The characterful Olivier Humbrecht vineyard is the source of this special drop. On a lofty hill rising to the east of Turckheim in the Vosges, the incisive single-vineyard Heimbourg finds its origin. Its staircase-shaped landscape stretches from southwest to west on a captivating soil of marl-limestone-sandstone terroir, emerged from the Oligocene era. Consisting of coastal, iron-rich limestone, this terroir impresses with a high silica content, an explicit active lime content and a low clay content. These attributes ensure excellent drainage and provide optimal conditions for the Riesling to ripen slowly while maintaining a constant acidity.
Remarks on expansion
The sun intensity of the 2020 harvest year played a significant role in allowing the grapes to ripen to their full potential, undisturbed by botrytis. An intensive, but carefully continued fermentation enabled us to create a pleasantly dry wine. The wine matured on its lees in mainly old oak barrels until bottling and was transferred to bottles 17 months after the harvest.
Colour profile
Dazzle with a glorious golden yellow.
Fragrance components
With the first impression from the bottle, the 2020 Riesling Heimbourg reveals its intense limestone terroir combined with a sea of aromas consisting of oranges, grapefruit, mango and angelica. Undertones of yeast and smoke add sensual complexity, enriched by nuances of ginger and anise. This explosive fragrance will reveal earthy truffle notes as it matures.
Taste impressions
Be ready for an overwhelming taste experience! A drop that combines power and aristocratic playfulness, delicate and astute. The expansive finish again stages citrus fruits and leaves a salty hint, presented crisply dry and enriched with yeasty spice. The potential of this wine will continue to unfold over the coming years, allowing it to blossom into a perfect food companion. If you cannot resist, we recommend decanting the wine at least one day in advance and enjoy it at a mild temperature from large Burgundy glasses.
Substitute menu suggestions
Try linguine with morels and fennel. Perhaps a lemon risotto with fried squid? Or how about slices of fillet steak accompanied by citrus sauce, tropical bok choy and crunchy cashew nuts? Whatever you choose, this wine will enhance your culinary experience.
