Wine Description for Riesling „Ganz Horn“ GG 2021 by Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow in the glass, clear and luminous – a classic presentation for a Palatinate Riesling of this provenance.
Nose
Here the full finesse of this parcel reveals itself: whilst its sibling from Im Sonnenschein comes across more opulently, the Ganz Horn impresses through restraint and precision. Ripe apples with skin, white redcurrants and greengage plums meld with herbal notes and a fine stony minerality. This is Riesling that doesn’t need to shout to convince.
Palate
On the palate, the elegance continues: the power builds in the background, never obtrusive, always with tension. The crystal-clear acidity is the backbone, a gripping, elegant tannin – yes, tannin in Riesling! – provides structure and grip. Juicy pale fruit and spicy notes interplay with one another; the wine has substance without heaviness.
Finish
Impressively long and precise. The spicy component carries far, the fruit remains pale and fresh, the minerality lingers. A finale that invites contemplation.
Terroir & Origin
The parcel Ganz Horn (formerly Siebeldinger Ganshorn) lies within the south-facing vineyard site Im Sonnenschein at the Haardt ridge. Geologically younger than its surroundings – originating from the Pleistocene – the subsoil here is characterised by gravel, Bunter sandstone, shingle and loam, whilst ancient shell limestone dominates the surrounding area. This particularity makes the difference: more finesse, less power.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, destemmed, with 24-hour skin contact. Maturation after pre-clarification in stainless steel tank, six months on fine lees. Purist vinification that gives precedence to the terroir.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The elegance and structure demand corresponding cuisine: Confit goose legs with Brussels sprouts and pomelo, steamed Savoy cabbage with porcini mushrooms and Appenzeller cheese or pork jowl terrine with egg yolk vinaigrette. The wine pairs well with fat, spice and texture.
Special Features
The finest representative among Rebholz’s current Großes Gewächs selections – a wine for connoisseurs who appreciate subtlety over opulence. 12.5% alcohol, practically dry.
