Info about the wine

Clos Häuserer is a small square vineyard of 1.198 hectares situated on deep, calcareous marl soil just below Grand Cru Stallion on a gentle eastern slope surrounded by hills. The Oligocene parent rock is about one to one and a half feet deep. This rich layer of soil takes a long time to warm, which is why Clos Häuserer, although located in a very early ripening area, may have the characteristics of a late ripening vineyard. The high free-run lime content is probably responsible for the reductive profile of this wine in its youth. The first vintage, 1975 (the vines were only three years old, so the wine was not declared a Clos Häuserer), still shows great vibrancy. (Olivier Humbrecht).

Info about the expansion

High acidity, slow opening, very slow fermentation! The 2018 vintage allowed for beautiful ripe grapes and as usual, it was the last wine to finish the 2018 fermentation. (Olivier Humbrecht)

Brilliant golden yellow.

The nose of the 2018 Riesling Clos Häuserer is still closed due to its youth. After decanting into the carafe, notes of limestone, dried lime blossom, chamomile, hay and white pepper clearly emerge. Dried apricot, fresh pineapple, the stalk of pineapple, vineyard peach, apple sauce and even lychee become more prominent after opening for a while. Anise, cardamom and ginger give it an intensive exotic impression.

On the tongue, it surprises all along the line with its elegance and freshness. Delicate salty notes meet a lively acidity and the fruit appears brighter than on the nose, suggesting pear, honeydew melon and citrus. A Riesling that conveys drinking pleasure due to its slender shape and can be combined excellently with dishes with a fresh impression.
If you want to enjoy it at this point, you should decant it for several hours and serve it in a sufficiently large glass. A few days of opening will allow it to gain expression.
