Wine Description for Meursault 1er Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus Élevage Prolongé AOC 2022 by Rémi Jobard

Character
Rémi Jobard, representative of one of Meursault’s most renowned winemaking families, practises with his Élevage Prolongé a deliberately extended barrel ageing that lends this Premier Cru additional depth and complexity. The Le Poruzot-Dessus sits in the upper part of the prestigious Poruzot vineyard site and is considered one of the most refined Premiers Crus of Meursault. This extended maturation period enables a more harmonious integration of fruit, minerality and wood – a classical approach that demands patience and a delicate touch.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Le Poruzot-Dessus is located on the slope above the village of Meursault, in close proximity to Volnay. The soils consist of white limestone with a high stone content, which gives the wine its characteristic tension and minerality. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was marked by drought and heat, yet produced concentrated, ripe grapes with good acidity structure. The higher elevation of Poruzot-Dessus preserves a certain freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay finds perhaps its most opulent expression in Meursault within Burgundy. Rémi Jobard works according to traditional methods with natural fermentation and ageing in oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood carefully measured. The Élevage Prolongé means a maturation period of at least 18 months, often longer, which gives the wine structure, creaminess and ageing potential. This philosophy is in keeping with the artisanal tradition of the Jobard family.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This substantial Premier Cru harmonises beautifully with lobster in butter sauce, pan-seared scallops or turbot. Equally suitable are veal cutlets with cream sauce, poultry in morel sauce or mature Comté cheese. The combination of creaminess and minerality makes it the ideal companion to rich, yet not overly heavy cuisine.
