Wine Description for Meursault 1er Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus Élevage Prolongé AOC 2022 by Rémi Jobard

Character
Rémi Jobard, continuing his father François’s legacy, counts among the most precise craftsmen in Meursault. His Le Poruzot-Dessus with extended barrel ageing (Élevage Prolongé) embodies that tension between opulence and minerality that distinguishes great Meursault Premier Crus. The designation „Élevage Prolongé“ signals Jobard’s confidence in the wine’s substance – nothing is rushed here, rather the wine is given time to develop its full complexity. The result is a Chardonnay of remarkable depth and precision.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Le Poruzot-Dessus lies on the upper slope south of Meursault, near the border with Volnay. The soils here are stonier and more chalky than in the lower-lying sites, which lends the wine a characteristic mineral tension. The 2022 vintage was marked by heat and drought in Burgundy, yet produced concentrated wines with surprising freshness – provided the winemakers understood how to maintain balance. Jobard’s restrained approach predestines him for such challenging years.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay from Meursault stands for nutty fullness, creamy texture and stony elegance. Jobard works traditionally: spontaneous fermentation, ageing in barrels with moderate new oak, no excessive bâtonnage. The extended barrel ageing means the wine spends more time on fine lees, which lends it additional complexity and suppleness without compromising freshness. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine shows maturity without being overloaded – a sign of careful fruit selection and controlled yields.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands sophisticated cuisine: lobster in butter sauce, scallops with saffron, Bresse chicken with morels or mature Comté. Turbot or roasted monkfish also harmonise beautifully. The combination of fullness and minerality makes it the ideal companion for rich, yet not overly heavy dishes.
