Wine information

Turo d'en Mota is one of Spain's great wines. It is a traditional method sparkling wine from the Penedès region, classified as Corpinnat and bottled as Brut Nature. The grapes come 100 per cent from Xarel.lo vines and come from a single vineyard of less than one hectare. The vineyard, planted in 1940, is cultivated biodynamically by the Recaredo winery. Recardeo attaches great importance to craftsmanship in the vineyard and in the cellar Winemaker Ton Mata first ages the base wine in oak barrels. After bottle fermentation, the sparkling wine matures on the lees for at least 13 years. The wine is matured with natural corks, disgorged by hand and without icing the neck of the bottle.

Nose

The Turo d'en Mota 2009 is constantly changing and always reveals new, captivating facets The bouquet is initially dominated by earthy and mineral notes. After some time in the air, flavours of stone fruit, pome fruit, violets and bitter almonds unfold. In addition to its high intensity, the nose is characterised by depth, harmony and elegance.

Palate

This sparkling wine can be described in one word: BALANCE. If you break down the meaning of this word into its components, you can say that it is a magnificent interplay of lively acidity, creamy, polished texture, elegant perlage, complex flavours, high intensity and a long finish. That sounds almost too technical and too coarse for this wine, because the Turo d'en Mota 2009 also possesses subtlety, depth and finesse. The wine is powerful and extremely fresh on the palate, its age is hardly noticeable. Despite the long ageing on the lees, the yeast only supports the aromas, for example with notes of almond shells, but the yeast flavours do not push themselves to the fore. Only absolute top wines can survive 13 years of ageing on the lees without being overwhelmed. There is also a fine, animating bitterness in the very long finish, which is typical of the Xarel.lo grape variety, especially when no make-up is applied in the form of a dosage, as is the case with this Brut Nature. There is hardly a comparable Spanish sparkling wine to Turo d'en Mota, and many a renowned champagne house would be envious.
