Wine profile
Highlighted by Olivier Humbrecht
You can find this expressive drop from alluvial and gravel soils right next to the winery. Excellent drainage and a warm, early-ripening climate conjure up a beguiling bottle every year that is always among the first to be harvested.
Maturing process
This vineyard requires careful monitoring of ripening to avoid excessive fullness. Once the harvest is initiated, the potential level of ripeness can be better determined, but the first bunches always contain an element of the unknown! In 2021, grapes affected by grape rot dried without affecting quality, but this reduced the quantity harvested.
Visual perception
A bright golden yellow that casts silver reflections.
Scent
In the 2021 version, the Pinot Gris Roche Roulée exudes a spicy, malty note to which liquorice and tree bark are added. Ripe apple, apricot and orange are harmoniously embedded in a profile of juicy minerality.
Taste
On the tongue, it indulges with fine melting and invigorating acidity, building on the apple and apricot note and adding ripe pineapple. It glides across the tongue with wonderful ease and a salty, subtle spicy note, and its elegance and restrained presence make it an ideal food companion.
Tips for enjoyment
Avoid serving it too cold and decant it from a larger glass before enjoying.
Alternative food recommendations: Risotto with porcini mushrooms and white asparagus, tuna sashimi enriched with small cubes of citrus zest and mild soy sauce, sauteed scallops with star anise butter and orange fennel.
