2008 was a very balanced vintage in Rangen, the soil showed green and juicy in summer because there was enough water, no water stress and a very nice autumn led to the grapes keeping an amazing acid structure. The 2008 Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos-Saint-Urbain beguiles on the nose with fruity aromas like pineapple, orange, dried fig, baked apple, mango and quince.

Info about the wine

Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer often behave the same in Rangen, and quite differently from Riesling. In 2008, the volcanic rocky soil of the Rangen produced very high acidity in the Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer with noble rot, especially in the lower part of the Clos, which is closest to the river and benefits from the moisture there. Fermentation is usually quick in the Rangen wines, but in 2008 it took some time because of the pronounced noble rot , sweetness and acidity were clearly pronounced. 2008 was a very balanced vintage at Rangen, the soil showed green and juicy in summer because there was enough water, no water stress and a very nice autumn led to the grapes keeping an amazing acid structure.

Color

Dense, radiant, intense golden yellow.

Nose

The 2008 Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos-Saint-Urbain beguiles on the nose with fruity aromas such as pineapple, orange, dried fig, baked apple, mango and quince. Accompanied by the characteristic smoky scent of the volcanic rock on which it is grown and an intense aromatic richness of spices, such as cardamom, saffron and cinnamon. A masterpiece full of expression and power presents itself to us.

Palate

The smoky and earthy notes are also felt on the palate, combined with beautifully opulent fruit and a vibrant and immensely invigorating acidity. The 2008 vintage offers wines that are incredibly lively and youthful due to their structure, wonderful to taste and an enrichment for a variety of combinations with expressive cuisine.
