Wine profile

The magnificent Frappato di Vittoria thrives at around 280 metres above sea level in the rolling hills of the Monti Iblei in Sicily, where the soil is characterised by red sand, chalk and chalky layers. With some vines averaging 40 years old and enjoying both Guyot and Albarello training, the cultivation here is carefully curated. The hand harvest in the first week of October continues the zenith of care that goes into the production of this handcrafted wine. After harvest, the Frappato is naturally fermented, leaving the wine to rest on the skins for a month before maturing in generous 25-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels for 14 months. The end product is an unfiltered, authentically Sicilian drop.

Colour scheme

The 2020 vintage of Frappato is purple and garnet red, with subtle lightening towards the rim.

Aroma

You are greeted by notes of red fruits: sour cherries, red currants, wild raspberries, beetroot and a pinch of orange peel dance in the nose. The floral touch of roses and violets completes the feminine, dancing bouquet.

Taste profile

On the palate, it is elegant and very supple. The fruit is prominent, supported by ripe yet present acidity and finely polished tannins. Salty minerality and a low alcohol content of 12.5 % make every sip of this red-berried and invigorating wine refreshing and enticing. Perfectly lightly chilled, it skilfully accompanies a range of spicy-fruity dishes.

Food suggestions

Try it with a Mediterranean couscous salad with black olives, goat cheese and cherry tomatoes. Smoky sea bass prepared with lemon zest and rosemary harmonises just as perfectly. A Sicilian speciality - veal roulades stuffed with prosciutto and sage in a rich Marsala sauce - will crown this tasting.
