Wine information
The Grüner Veltliner Smaragd comes from the vineyard "Im Weingebirge" with loam, loess and paragneiss. The wine was bottled after one and a half years on the lees in large, old wooden barrels with 2.1 grams of residual sugar and 5.1 grams of acidity.
Color
light golden yellow
Nose
The 2017 Smaragd In The Wine Mountains appears distinctly fresh and cool, stony and slightly herbal-scented, but above all it reveals a lively, juicy fruit of lemons, apricots and dried pineapple and mango, accompanied by a little gravel, dry earth and fennel seed.
Palate
On the palate, this is a picture-book Veltliner with the typical extract spice that is clearly pronounced here and combines with a delicate but lively and insistent acidity. The mouthfeel is creamy and lining with plenty of white-fleshed fruit juice and again some dried pineapple and mango. The salinity, minerality and slight extract sweetness so typical of Nikolaihof wines make the Emerald already very appetising!
