Colour & Appearance

Pale golden yellow with delicate green reflections – a shimmer that, despite its long cellar maturation, still signals freshness and vitality.

Nose

The nose is complex and characterised by quiet depth: the fruit has retreated behind an elegant layer of dried herbs, beeswax and fine citrus zest notes. These are joined by stony and slightly earthy tones that tell of the amphibolite and paragneiss subsoil of the northern Wachau vineyard sites. Ethereal, multifaceted, unobtrusive.

Palate

The entry is surprisingly round and silky, almost meditative – until a lively, insistent acidity takes over and gives the wine contour and tension. Citrus peel, spearmint and spicy herbs interweave into a harmonious whole. The waxy notes from its long maturation return discreetly on the palate and give the wine a mature, almost meditative complexity.

Finish

Long, saline-mineral and carried by fine waxy spice. A finale that lingers and invites the next sip – the hallmark of a truly complete, balanced wine.

Terroir & Origin

The grapes come from several vineyards around Mautern on the Danube: warmer, loess-rich vineyard sites such as Silberbichl and Am Zaum, as well as cool, north-facing parcels such as Bischofspoint in the Weingebirge, where amphibolite and paragneiss determine the wine’s mineral character. This diversity of soils and exposures gives the Steinterrassen its remarkable complexity.
