Color:
Dark ruby red with violet reflections.
Nose:
The 2018 Zweigelt Natural from Hajszan Neumann exudes great calm on the nose. The dark fruit of black cherries and plums marries with blackberries and mild spices and herbs: Juniper berries, allspice and thyme in the top note are spicy underpinned by black tobacco and bitter chocolate.
Mouth:
On the nose it is straightforward and taut. Its tightly laced tannin corset gives it contour, the fresh acidity provides for proper speed on the palate. Leptosom with a fruit reduced to the essential is phenolically flanked by fine tannins and noble bitter notes. Fruity tart with a cool finish.
Food recommendations by Sebastian Bordthäuser:
- Hard cheese with plum chutney and curry oil
(Cheese, Fruit & Nuts)
- Borscht with eel
(Fish, Soups & Consommées)
- Fried black pudding on apple-potato mash with roasted onions and barberries
(meat)
