Wine Description for Meursault En Luroule AOC 2023 by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale straw yellow with vibrant green reflections – youthful, clear, of untroubled precision.
- Nose
- Restrained and introverted in the first moments, this Meursault unfolds with aeration on quiet feet. No showmanship, but rather silent eloquence: citrus peel, white flowers and the fine abrasion of skins form the foundation. To this are added green almonds, hazelnuts and a hint of salted buttered toast with a touch of quince paste. A wine that does not call – it whispers.
- Palate
- Precise and clearly structured like a well-placed climbing hold. The razor-sharp acidity gives the wine contour and drive, whilst an aromatically bitter phenolic character – reminiscent of grapefruit – further accelerates the palate. The fruit shows itself less juicy than rather anchored in extract: compact, dense, with a clear edge. A thoroughly structural wine that relies on tension rather than flattery.
- Finish
- Long, mineral and characterised by salty-chalky freshness. The finish draws out with cool elegance – no echo of wood, but pure terroir.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vineyard site „En Luraule“ in Meursault lies on limestone and clay-rich soils in optimally exposed hillside position – classic Burgundy in its purest form. The biodynamic management of the vineyard underscores Rémi Jobard’s commitment to a living, expressive terroir.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Chardonnay, hand-harvested and gently pressed – without rebéchage. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts leads to ageing of around twelve months in large Stockinger barrels as well as partly used pieces (maximum 20% new wood). Subsequently, the wine matured for a further six months in stainless steel tank, before being bottled unfiltered and with minimal intervention. Craftsmanship without compromise.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- An ideal companion to grilled turbot with brown butter, scallops on pea purée or a classic Poulet de Bresse à la crème. This Meursault also makes an excellent match with aged Comté or a lobster bisque.
- Special Features
- Rémi Jobard counts amongst the quiet perfectionists of the Côte de Beaune. His approach – biodynamic, minimally interventionist, consistently terroir-focused – makes his wines sought-after rarities. The 2023 vintage, despite its warmth characterised by remarkably fresh acidity structure, shows its full potential here: a wine for the patient, one that requires time and deserves it.
