Mason di Mason comes from Mazzon and is called Mason by Manincor to avoid confusion with the village of Mazon near Neumarkt. The site covers about four hectares, all of which are planted with Pinot Noir. The south-facing plateau lies at an altitude of 400-450 metres and is constantly exposed to the wind. The soils there consist of dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite. The highest parcel is planted with the oldest vines, from which this "Grand Cru from the Grand Cru" is produced in top years. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, each parcel is vinified separately. The must is fermented spontaneously with the vineyard's own yeasts in wooden fermentation racks. The maceration lasted a total of three weeks with two submersions of the marc per day. The wine is then aged for 12 months in barriques with 50% new wood on the fine lees. Only then are the individual parcels blended and only the best barrels selected.
Color
Strong ruby red with a transparent core.
Nose
Finely spiced with the typical Pinot or Pinot Noir elegance, the 2021 Mason di Mason from Manincor exudes its rich perfume. Ripe wild raspberries mingle with heart cherries and form the transparent red fruit core, spicily complemented by juniper, sandalwood and mild spicy notes. Mace, allspice and white pepper fill the spice box, joined by complex balsamic notes of amber and shellac and lemon thyme in the top note. A wine that always belongs in the carafe, even the large glasses are obligatory in this case.
Mouth
Super silky on the nose, it rolls over the palate like the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, just before Grace Kelly glides over it. The tannin management is simply exceptional, the ageing in wood sensitive and always in the service of the fine fruit and the transparent, yet profound extract. Multi-layered and complex, it combines fruit, tannin, extract and acidity into an orchestral, grand whole. Enormous maturity potential vs. enormous fun potential.
