Color
In rich purple with violet rim and opaque core, the wine appears clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
Already the nose of this honest, homeland-loving cuvée of Sangiovese and the autochthonous varieties Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Aleatico combines animalistic earthiness with delicate finesse. The fruity notes, in the form of blackberry, blueberry, mulberry and sloe, are boldly impetuous and seem smoked. Fine spicy aromas of dried hay flowers and allspice, as well as peat, toasted walnut and bergamot give the multi-faceted wine a fascinating finishing touch.
Palate
The 2015 Majulina of Calafata is completely under the sign of the motto "In the peace lies the strength". It presents itself completely balanced on the palate. Its red fruitiness, which is a bit dry on the nose, is rehydrated on the palate and invites you to take big sips. The wine's tannin hovers lustily, yet balanced, between raucous and stately, giving the juicy middleweight a powerful yet agile body. Those who open this top-class and at the same time immensely drinkable wine in a cosy round should have made sure beforehand that they have enough bottles of it in the backhand.
