Wine information
This Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine from the Melon de Bourgogne variety comes from a vineyard planted in 1998 in the village of La Chapelle Heulin. The soil is characterized by slate. Le Verger is the cadastral name of the vineyard parcel, meaning orchard, and was the inspiration for the label depicting the seduction of Adam by Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The hand-picked grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press, whereby the strength and duration of the pressing were adapted to the respective vintage. This was followed by spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, followed by fermentation and maturation on the lees in underground cement cuves lined with glass for seven months.
Color
intense straw yellow
Nose
This Muscadet is a quiet representative on the nose, which is typical of this grape variety overall. It smells slightly grassy with a flinty note of salt lemon and its zest as well as a bunch of freshly picked garden herbs.
Palate
On the palate Le Verger a classic Muscadet. At first, it appears almost minimalist with a bright, clear fruit flavour. The Melon de Bourgogne grape variety combines citrus flavours with those of green stone fruit. The ageing on the lees provides a certain creaminess and silkiness on the palate. The acidity is barely present in the first few moments. However, it increases towards the finish and the wine suddenly becomes savoury, slightly smoky and iodiney, with a sea breeze in the wine. It is a Muscadet with freshness, clarity and precision.
