Wine Description for Pommard 1er Cru „Les Argillières“ AOC 2019 by Lejeune

Colour & Appearance
Radiant, slightly transparent cherry red – classically Burgundian with that clarity which distinguishes fine Premier Crus.
Nose
Open, inviting bouquet with freshly crushed wild strawberries, cherries and ripe plums. These are joined by smoke, winter spices and a hint of menthol. The noble oak contributes elegantly, without dominating – precisely calibrated and perfectly integrated.
Palate
Cherry fruit in all its facets: black cherries and sour cherries with a touch of marzipan, alongside cinnamon plums, subtle chocolate and tobacco. The structure is excellent – vibrant acidity meets silky tannins, which already lend the wine elegance and accessibility. With air, the Pommard gains in fullness and nuance, the balance becoming ever more precise.
Finish
Long, spicy and with fine tannin structure that promises development potential for years to come.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Les Argillières (also en Largillière) lies north-east of Pommard on clay-rich soils over limestone – a combination that gives the wine its distinctive structure and simultaneously elegance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir in the typical Lejeune style: 30% whole-bunch fermentation, foot-trodden, natural yeasts, semi-carbonic maceration over five to seven days. Total fermentation around three weeks, followed by ageing in wooden barrels with 30% new oak. Lightly sulphited, neither filtered nor fined.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Strips of lukewarm roast beef with cooked red cabbage and mole, salt-crust braised beetroot with glazed radicchio and mashed potatoes, or briefly grilled tuna with balsamic blood orange foam.
Special Characteristics
Already accessible and charming now, yet possesses the potential for 15 years of bottle age. A Pommard that masterfully commands the balance between immediate drinking pleasure and long-term development potential.
