Info about the wine

The vineyards in the Oppenheim district are no longer subject to the direct influence of the Rhine and, as they are shaped like an amphitheatre, they store heat in an ideal way and the grapes ripen harmoniously. Unlike around Nierstein, where the red slate soil predominates, the soils around Oppenheim are very calcareous and characterised by limestone marl formations. With a layer of soft loess, these are ideal sites for Burgundy varieties. The idea for this wine, which was bottled for the first time from the 2012 vintage, came from observing this parcel. The grapes ripen a little more slowly here due to a firm limestone clod. Carolin and Hans Oliver took advantage of this special feature of the micro-location and were able to harvest ideally ripened, small-berried, healthy Chardonnay grapes through consistent thinning, accompanied by strict selection during the harvest. The pure limestone marl of Oppenheim.

Info about the expansion

Golden yellow small berries fermented in barriques and tonneaux, half of them as first fermentation, the other barrels in the second fermentation.

Color

Radiant, deep golden yellow.

Nose

What an aroma flows towards us - matchstick, yellow fruit, orange, vanilla and freshly churned butter underpinned by wild herbs, undergrowth, forest floor and porcini mushrooms. A powerful and complex Chardonnay with a Burgundian flavour that is at the very beginning of its exciting development. You literally want to inhale it.

Palate

On the palate, the 2021 Oppenheim Chardonnay Alte Reben is powerful, complex and challenges the palate with a distinctive yet fine tannin structure. A wine with fantastic ageing potential that will reward the patient taster, as it will become even more multi-faceted and complex with further ageing. Great ageing potential!

Be sure to decant and enjoy not too cold from large glasses.
