Champagne Jèrôme Blin is located in Vincelles in the Marne Valley and has a family history in viticulture dating back to 1671. The organically certified estate covers six hectares, of which 70% are planted with Pinot Meunier and 15% each with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
La Pouillote is 77% from 2018 and was dosed with 7 grams of Extra Brut in March 2019. The vines for this champagne are around 45 years old and grow on silty limestone, a speciality of the Marne Valley with a south-south-west orientation. The base wines are harvested by hand and fermented in steel.
The cuvée of 80% Meunier and 20% Chardonnay was disgorged in September 2021, only 500 bottles were produced.
Color
Strong straw yellow with fine perlage.
Nose
Characterised by 44 months of ageing on the lees, the 2018 La Pouillote Extra Brut from Jérôme Blin has clear pastry and autolysis notes on the nose. Toast with salted butter and orange marmalade, savoury biscuits, yeast plait and salted hazelnuts set the pace. Vanilla crescents, apple jelly and a little crème patissier fill the sweet register.
Mouth
The fine mousseux on the palate has a salty undertone and is fluffily captured by the long lees ageing, which gives it its creamy mellowness. Juicy with ripe fruit and a crumbly grip on the palate, it pulls out all the stops of an extra brut champagne. Rich in extract with a crumbly texture and vinous character, it is a perfect all-rounder with a wide range of uses at the table.
