Wine information
Le Haut-Lieu is the vineyard that forms the origin of the Huet estate. The Huet family first visited the village of Vouvray in 1928 and were so taken with the estate that now forms the winery and the five-hectare Le Haut-Lieu vineyard that they acquired both and founded the Huet winery. Le Haut-Lieu is located on the plateau of Vouvray and is characterised by deep brown clay with a little flint and chalk in the topsoil. The topsoil is locally called aubuis. The bedrock is yellow tuffeau limestone, and it is four metres deep.
The harvest of the grapes for the Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux »Première Trie« took place in 2020 between 7 September and 25 September. As the vintage was strongly characterised by sun and warmth, mainly residually sweet wines were produced. As usual, the grapes were meticulously sorted, pressed and spontaneously fermented. Malolactic fermentation took place only in exceptional cases and in individual barrels. The wine was matured in used demi-muids. At Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux »Première Trie« is a wine with residual sweetness, in which the first botrytised grapes have found their way into the wine. In this case, residual sweetness means 71 g/l.
Color
light golden yellow
Nose
The Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux »Première Trie« from the Le Haut-Lieu location stands out from the Moelleux from the same site by a higher sweetness and a higher proportion of perfectly sorted botrytis berries. The result is a bouquet that continues to offer the Moselan character of this site with its liveliness, but also has a somewhat mustier note of pears and apples, even quince, and also a little mushroom. The always light-footed Le Haut-Lieu appears more concentrated and dense here, showing notes of oranges, herbs and a little light tobacco, chalk and persimmon.
Palate
On the palate, the Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux »Première Trie« The wine's full-bodied, silky, calm and sensual, flattering and quite opulent at first. But then the acidity shoots into the ripe yellow fruit and the spice, it provides the necessary freshness, makes the Chenin Blanc juicy as well as lively and, especially in combination with notes of salted almonds and salt lemons, really makes your mouth water. This is what you find in this Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux»Première Trie« again all the Le Haut-Lieu typicity and so much acidity as well as concentration that one need not worry about the long future of this wine.
