Info about the wine:

This elegant cuvée of Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Merlot takes its name from the sunny lowlands on the eastern side of Lake Neusiedl, which are characterised not only by the excellent microclimate but also by the particularly permeable soils. On these, the hand-picked organic grapes ripened in vineyards traditionally cultivated by hand.

Removal Info:

Spontaneous fermentation in temperature controlled steel tanks, 15 months maturation in 500 litre wooden barrels.

Color:

Dark violet red with delicate lightening towards the rim.

Nose:

The 2017 Heideboden has an intense and pleasantly spicy attack. Aromas of blackberries, elderberries, sloe unite with dark plum jam. Clear aromas of green pepper, pepper, wood smoke and leather emphasize its spicy character. With sufficient oxygen, floral hints of ivy and violets join in.

Palate:

On the palate, it is juicy with refreshing acidity, almost light on its feet with earthy minerality and stimulating herbal spice. A wine that has expression and character in addition to its uncomplicated nature and combines wonderfully with a whole variety of dishes pleasantly.

Food recommendations by Christina Hilker:

  • Cold platters with cheese and cold cuts, served with crusty farmhouse bread
    (meat, cheese)
  • Schlutzkrapfen (Austrian ravioli) filled with lentils and cream cheese, beetroot salad (vegetarian)
(Cheese, Pasta, Pizza, Polenta & Risotto, Vegetable & Vegetarian, Ravioli)
  • Root meat with savoy cabbage, bacon and bouillon potatoes
    (Meat, Vegetable & Vegetarian)
