Info about the wine
The Weisleiten vineyard encompasses the entire "backside" of the Vienna Nussberg, i.e. the side that slopes to the north-east. Originally dismissed as inferior, this vineyard is gaining enormous importance due to the climate shift. The terroir is the same as on the south side of the Nussberg, i.e. flysch with shell limestone, but the ripening is shifted by certainly two weeks, so a later harvest with more freshness and acidity is possible despite increasingly hot summers.
Color
Medium golden yellow.
Nose
On the nose, beautiful ripe yellow fruits such as apricot, vineyard peach, mango and orange mingle with warm oriental spices reminiscent of turmeric, curry and cardamom. The whole is underpinned by a carpet of spicy deep and earthy minerality that gives it a beautiful framework.
Palate
On the palate, the 2019 Wiener Gemischter Satz Ried Weisleiten shows fresh orange flesh and pineapple trunk, its acidity is very nicely mature and sets subtle accents. The fine phenolic in the finish loves the accompaniment of powerful dishes and spicy cheeses.
