The Christmann winery is now being run by the eighth generation. In 2017, Sophie Christmann reported back to the winery and initially began to devote herself to Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. The vines for the Gimmeldinger Spätburgunder come from an old vineyard in the Kapellenberg and are harvested by hand with low yields of max. 40hl/ha. Destemmed, the grapes are fermented for 15-18 days in new and used barriques.
Color
Ruby red, transparent and clear.
Nose
Ripe sour cherries, wild raspberries, blackberries and fresh plums form the red-fruited thread of the 2017 Gimmeldinger Spätburgunder. The open-hearted and generous nose is topped with mild spices and subtle wood notes, which also appear under the spice category. The all-around super-juicy character of the wine makes you literally crave for the first sip.
Mouth
On the palate, the transparent, clear and animating fruit holds the scepter. In a perfect red robe with a collar of ermine, the serving wood acts without grumbling and subordinates itself willingly to the overall structural concept of the wine. The acidity functions as an accelerator, the silky tannins blow the same horn and allow high-frequency refilling. This is how local wine works!
