light golden yellow

The Gewurztraminer from the lower part of the southeast-facing chalky Grand Cru site Steingrubler in Wettolsheim, Alsace, offers an invitingly fragrant and spicy aroma that presents itself fresh and cool at the same time. Here, the scent of a Charentais melon combines with Reineclauden and quince, lychee and nutmeg, bergamot, bitter orange marmalade, tobacco and damp stone. Yes, the Steingrubler Grand Cru is once again a wonderfully complex wine, and all its components work finely together.

An opulent and at the same time fine Gewurztraminer builds up on a mineral, sinewy and energetic basic structure as well as a rather restrained and yet clearly perceptible acidity typical for the variety. All the fruits and spices that already determined the fragrance play reappear here in a meltingly creamy and spicy form. The Grand Cru is influenced by the 29 grams of residual sugar, but at the same time this wine is full of elegance and vitality.

Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt

  • Lobster with ginger-orange butter
  • Red mullet fillets with basmati rice, coconut milk and tropical curry
  • Selection of cheeses from ripe Munster, Maroilles, Epoisses with quince-campot pepper jam
