Note on the wine
From vines grown mainly in the 1990s and early 2001 in the Grand Cru Brand and its immediate vicinity comes this exquisite drop. The 'de Turckheim' granite in which the vines are rooted is an original type of biotite granite and has a high proportion of black mica. This mica is transformed into its finest state, clay, by the activity of bacteria and micro-organisms. Under the influence of the rain, these microelements migrate downwards and contribute to the mineral supply of the vines that reach deep into the soil. Essential in these soil structures is a certain age of the vines that supports root penetration and benefits from biodynamic cultivation.
These vineyards benefit from a mild, early climate that influences the ripening of the grapes, often making them the first to be harvested on the estate. In the 2019 harvest, the grapes showed first-class health, with high acidity, which played a role in the fermentation rate and made this wine one of the last vintages to take its final shape.
A captivating, intense golden yellow.
The 2019 Roche Granitique Riesling demands decanting before it invigorates and challenges the senses with its intense, fresh fruit notes reminiscent of an abundance of citrus, orange, lime, young pineapple and apricot. This sumptuous fruitiness is underpinned by fresh ginger, lemongrass and pronounced mineral vibrancy. The present citrus notes offset the isolated freshness even before the first sip.
An incredibly precise taste experience awaits you on the palate: citrus, yellow and exotic fruits roll across the tongue in unison with an overtone of lively acidity, flanked by a superbly present salty minerality that transforms the wine into an umami experience. Fruit sweetness, a hint of saltiness and an incredible freshness harmonise perfectly and make for a wholly enjoyable drinking experience. Decant if possible and serve in large glasses.
Try it with Jerusalem artichoke chips with lemon and linseed oil mayonnaise and carrot and sauerkraut salad. Another excellent combination is a scallop salad with orange and wakame seaweed. If you like it a little more opulent, you can enjoy it with veal shredded in a sage and apricot sauce.
