Wine information
This wine comes from the younger vines on the gravelly alluvial soils of the Herrenweg in Turckheim. Younger vines in this case means "only" 52 years on average! These vineyards ripen early and quickly, especially in vintages that do not suffer from summer drought, as in 2021. The yield was just 27 hl/ha, which was also due to crop failures caused by frost and mildew in the spring. Sweetness and acidity are balanced between 7 and 5.4 grams.
Color
Light golden yellow
Nose
The 2021 Gewurztraminer Turckheim opens with a fine, classic fragrance of nutmeg, lychee and a whole bouquet of flowers such as roses and peonies, lilac and lily of the valley. There are also notes of candied violets, pepper and light tobacco.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is excellently balanced - especially if you give it plenty of air in the carafe. It then becomes round, silky and full with fine acidity and a very fine, vibrant minerality. Otherwise, the Gewurztraminer Lining, juicy, fragrant with light tannins and a fine bitterness in the long, dense finish.
