Wine Description for Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos AOC 2023 from de l’Enclos

Colour & Appearance
Intense straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a visual promise of the concentration this Grand Cru holds in store.
Nose
For a Les Clos, the 2023 shows itself surprisingly accessible and expressive. The nose reveals the classic gunflint minerality that defines Les Clos, accompanied by smoke, a trace of tobacco and the unmistakable impression of crushed stone after rain – that petrichor which distinguishes great Chablis. Beneath lies a fine layer of fruit: green apples, mirabelle plums, lemon zest and white flowers. A wine that already communicates now, but will have much more to tell.
Palate
Here the juiciness and sensuality surprise – qualities one wouldn’t necessarily have expected so early. The ripe fruit suggests a fine, almost imperceptible sweetness that lends the wine charm without compromising its rigour. Behind it, however: drive, tension and a vibrating freshness that electrifies the palate. A subtle tannic structure gives the Grand Cru grip and contour. The finish becomes increasingly saline and energetic – a wine with considerable ageing potential.
Finish
Long, mineral and saline-fresh. The wine takes its leave with stony precision, leaving one with the desire for the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The 0.67-hectare parcel in the lower section of the Les Clos slope – the historic heart of this legendary climat – was planted by the grandfather in 1964. Here, where Kimmeridgian limestone meets optimal exposure, wines of extraordinary depth and longevity are born.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, hand-harvested on 12th September 2023. After slow whole-bunch pressing, spontaneously fermented in used tonneaux and matured there for 13 months. Coarsely filtered, lightly sulphured (79 mg/l), bottled in November 2024. Authentic winemaking that gives the terroir space to express itself.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine for haute cuisine: scallops with butter sauce, lobster, turbot, sweetbreads or a mature Comté. The minerality harmonises perfectly with oysters – naturally.
Special Features
A Grand Cru that finds the rare balance between youthful accessibility and serious ageing potential. Drink it now with curiosity – or wait a decade.
