Wine information
The Nebbiolo comes from the Currá vineyard in Neive. Currá covers 2.8 hectares on a south-south-western exposure. The vines are between 55 and 75 years old and stand on pure limestone. The average yield is 40 hl/ha. All Sottimano sites have been farmed organically since the early 1970s. The fruit was destemmed, fermented for up to three months and left on the skins, with the pomace regularly punched down during fermentation in open stainless steel fermentation racks. The wine was aged in François Frère barrels. Around 15 % were new wood, the rest one to four years old. The ageing time in the barrel was around 24 months.
Color
Slightly transparent ruby red with brick-coloured reflexes
Nose
The 2019 »Currá« presents the site with typical notes of violets, anise and fennel seeds, some bay leaf and best cubeb pepper over a layer of juicy black and sour cherries, some plum, tobacco and crushed lime. The wine appears transparent and clear.
Mouth
On the palate, the location and the year provide a double measure of nervous, agile tension in this fleshy, juicy wine. Barbaresco. The tannin is taut, the structure firm and wiry, the wine is full of energy as well as tension and full of dark juicy fruits and fine herbal, tobacco and spice nuances.
