Tasting note
Domaine Albert Mann is the union of two great winegrowing families: the Mann family, who have been growing grapes since the beginning of the 17th century, and the Barthelmé family, the current owners, who have been active in viticulture since 1654. Situated in Wettolsheim on the Alsace Wine Route, each plot of the 25-hectare estate is individually cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles.
The Crémant d'Alsace Extra Brut is a cuvée made from 70 % Pinot Blanc and annually varying proportions of Auxerrois, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The grapes for this wine grow on loamy limestone, sand and gravel and the vines are on average 30 years old. Dosed with approx. one gram, disgorged in February 2024.
Color:
Pale straw yellow with a fine perlage.
Nose:
Bell-clear attack on the nose, pomaceous fruit, crab apple, some citrus, orange blossom, white flowers and green apricot. Some yeast pastry with glaze wafts underneath, otherwise very pure and delicately fruity.
Mouth:
Juicy on the palate with clearly defined fruit, not overripe, not picked too early, but ripe. Pleasantly dry, the mousse is still somewhat agitated thanks to the recent disgorgement, yet disciplined and fine-sparkling, as it should be. In addition to the clear fruit, the palate reveals some salt-buttered plait.
Food pairing suggestions
- Crostini with Obatzter (Vegetable & Vegetarian)
- Salmon canapés (fish)
- Reuben sandwich (meat)
