Wine information
Supplied to the Bavarian royal court in the 19th and early 20th century and sung about in poetry, the Neustadter Vogelsang fell into oblivion as a location due to speculation on building land. The magnificent natural surroundings and the resulting protected status prevented the construction plans. The vineyard came into the hands of Christmanns in 2017. One of the most exciting projects for many years in the Palatinate and far beyond. The soil consists of shell limestone that is more than 200 million years old, which came to the surface during the collapse of the Upper Rhine Rift Valley and is unique in this form in the Mittelhaardt region. The vineyard slopes quite steeply to the south with a gradient of up to 50%. Due to its location at the end of the Neustadt valley, at an altitude of up to 260 metres, there are large temperature differences between day and night, which create a lot of tension in the wine.
Information on the expansion
100% selective hand-picking into small boxes, spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels.
Color
Light golden yellow with delicate green reflections
Nose
The 2022 Vogelsang Grosse Lage is fresh, multi-faceted and with a full mineral expression. Flavours of citrus fruit, apple, green pear and fresh herbs. Underpinned by an intense minerality and cool, stony flavour. A wine at the beginning of its development, which is still very reserved due to its youthfulness, but which promises great things.
Palate
Razor-sharp with lots of green apple and citrus on the palate, with a salty hint of flavour. A wine that is flirtatious and invites you to drink it, fresh and lively dishes are the trump card!
If you want to savour it in its youthful stage, you should definitely decant it and serve it not too cold in a sufficiently large glass.
