Wine information

The centrepiece of the Ölberg vineyard, the Hart, lies around the Ölberg chapel and is classified as a VDP Grosse Lage. The soil is characterised by very heavy tertiary limestone marl, the so-called terra fusca. The topsoil is mixed with coloured sandstone rubble. The vineyard lies high up on the edge of the Haard, at the end of the Klausen valley of the Palatinate Forest. As a result, it is exposed to the sun early in the morning, but just as early in the evening in the shade of the mountains and in a cool night-time breeze from the valley. Our auction wine "Kapelle" has long been produced on the Ölberg, in the oldest part of the Hart vineyard. Since 2020, the Christman winery has been pressing the VDP. Grosse Gewächs Ölberg-Hart from the entire Gewann.

Sparkling golden yellow.

Nose

Due to its youthfulness, the 2022 Königsbacher Ölberg is still somewhat closed at first, but its intense minerality, characterised by limestone, is immediately recognisable. With a little oxygen contact, fruity flavours reminiscent of wood pear, apple and apricot are added, as well as distinct exotic notes of physalis, mango, pineapple and kiwi. Fine white pepper notes, coriander and mustard flour round off the complex spectrum of flavours.

Palate

Powerful and full-bodied, it glides over the tongue. The juicy fruit flavours in combination with a salty minerality and acidity are clearly evident here. The long finish is characterised by a stimulating bitter note that whets the appetite for the accompaniment of full-bodied and aroma-intensive cuisine.

Be sure to decant and enjoy not too cold from large glasses.
