Colour & Appearance

Medium-intensity ruby red, transparent and clear – classic Nebbiolo elegance in the glass.

Nose

Intense and concentrated with remarkable depth. Pulsating heart cherries meet Assam tea, black cardamom and juniper. Distinctive tobacco notes are ethereally lifted by kumquat citrus, whilst thyme and balsamic nuances contribute additional complexity. An aromatic conglomerate that presses from the glass with solid intensity.

Palate

Here the true class of this Barbaresco reveals itself: extract-rich fruit builds immense pressure, carried by powerful, tightly woven tannins. The structure recalls Bruce Lee – power meets finesse. A vibrant acidity nerve accelerates the wine, whilst cool minerality lends it tension. Fleshy and firm, yet brilliantly clear in its fruit. Open-hearted and joyful with remarkably rapid drinking flow for a young Barbaresco.

Finish

Fruity-ethereal with lingering presence. The tannins remain present without dominating.

Terroir & Origin

The historic cru vineyard site Basarin lies at the border between Neive and Treiso in the heart of the Barbaresco region. Just over three hectares with south-westerly exposure and vines between 25 and 60 years old. Sottimano works according to biodynamic principles to capture the precise character of the vineyard site.

Grape Variety & Vinification

100% Nebbiolo, spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts. 25 days maceration, 24 months ageing in French oak (15% new wood), of which 12 months on the lees. Since 2014 modernised oak usage for greater accessibility in youth. Bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Braised beef roast with spätzle, gurnard on melted tomatoes with olive and black garlic, or gnocchi with dried tomatoes and fennel pollen in light thyme sauce.
