Info
The Barolo 'Castiglione' is Vietti's interpretation of a classic Barolo. The grapes used to produce this wine come from a variety of excellent Barolo Cru sites located in the different communes of the entire Barolo area. Calcareous marl soils, with different compositions depending on the site. Wire-frame vine training with an average planting density of about 4,500 vines/hectare. Average age of the vines between 10 and 45 years.
The grapes, harvested by hand from the 7th to the end of October 2019, were vinified and vinified site by site, plot by plot. After destemming, the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks for a short cold maceration. Must fermentation with regular over-pumping. Towards the end of alcoholic fermentation, the marc cap was submerged, beginning the post-fermentative maceration phase. In total, the wine was in contact with the skins for an average of three to four weeks. Malolactic fermentation in wood. Afterwards, the wines - still separated according to their origin - were aged for about 30 months in large wooden barrels, and to a small extent in used barriques. The final assemblage of the Barolo 'Castiglione' took place.

Nose
Barolo Castiglione is every year again a reference for the quality at Vietti. Plum, blackberry and sloe flow from the glass. Violets and violets provide dark, floral elegance. Sour cherry and wild strawberry are in no way inferior in the second limb. It lives on earthiness and dark aromas that nevertheless lack nothing in finesse. Damp forest soil, a hint of black truffle and bark from conifers. Hazelnut and walnut are just around the corner. A breeze of juniper stands out next to cubeb pepper.
Palate
On the nose, it hits the nail on the head. The fruit now seems much less dark and gives it freshness and elegance with plenty of drinkability. The spicy and earthy aromas come out perfectly in a similar form. Its fine but very present tannin structure is perfectly proportioned. The taut acidity works against the positively burgeoning bitterness, giving it points of contrast. This invigorates immensely and keeps the drinking flow high.
