Wine Description for Aphros Orange 2023 by Aphros Wine

Colour & Appearance
Hazy, silvery-shimmering lemon yellow with lively reflection – a natural orange wine that makes no secret of its unfiltered origins.
Nose
Surprisingly floral and intensely aromatic: chamomile, daisies, dried flower petals and an elegant hint of muscat set the tone. These are joined by bergamot, grapefruit, lychee and white peach – all in delicate, filigree fashion. In the background, beeswax, hay flowers and fresh herbal notes of mint, lemon balm and lemongrass emerge. A bouquet of radiant complexity and quiet elegance.
Palate
Light-footed and dance-like – here the refinement of this Loureiro interpretation reveals itself. The tannin structure is finely woven, never dominant, yet present enough for grip and definition. At moderate 11% alcohol and gentle acidity, an invigorating, almost Atlantic-maritime profile unfolds: salty minerality, hints of seaweed, wet stone and a slight bitterness of grapefruit peel. The fruit recedes in favour of cool, herbal freshness.
Finish
Clear, cool and marked by salty purity. Floral and herbal nuances interweave into a transparent, refreshing finale – not a trace of oxidative heaviness, only crystalline precision.
Terroir & Origin
From Vinho Verde, Portugal’s northernmost wine region, where Atlantic influences provide cool nights and lively acidity. Aphros Wine works biodynamically and allows the maritime freshness of the region to flow into the wine unadulterated.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Loureiro, vinified as an orange wine with skin contact – yet with restraint and finesse. Rather than oxidative heaviness, winemaker Vasco Croft focuses on transparency, freshness and subtle texture. An orange wine for purists.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled octopus, ceviche, oysters, smoked fish, goat’s cheese or Asian dishes with coriander and lemongrass. Also a delight with tempura vegetables or salted almonds.
Special Features
An orange wine that redefines the category: not oxidative and heavy, but airy, salty and of Atlantic elegance. Produced biodynamically, unfiltered and a prime example of the new generation of Portuguese natural wines.
