Color
Deep garnet red with a brick-colored rim and opaque core, the wine shows clearly and brilliantly in the glass.
Nose
Already the first scent reveals that it is a mine of a wine. Dark it goes into the depth. How far is uncertain and filled with a good bit of adventurousness. What is certain, however, is that there is much to discover.
The scent of this Amarone Riserva resembles the display of the top-class treat stand at the fairground market. Candied baked apples and dried plums, figs and dates can be found there as well as dominoes and rum balls with dark chocolate, cotton candy and Turkish honey as well as stomach bread and roasted Viennese almonds. They are joined only by a breath of air from the leather pouch in which the dinky saleswoman keeps her rolling tobacco.
This is the beauty of when only the scent of a wine is able to play whole scenarios in front of the mind's eye...
Palate
Dark.
Seized by the fullness of the story told by the nose of this Amarone, the 2012 Ravazzol Riserva DOCG from Ca' la Bionda presents itself powerful and consolidated on the palate. Sublime and majestic is its nature. The stroll through the fair continues with slightly dimmed lighting on the palate. Opulent berry fruit is freed from all kitsch and comes along with a generous handful of pepper spiced flavourfully pure, but also with timpani and trumpets. Lush tannin, harmoniously balanced in the overall picture, gives irrefutable, yet controlled power. Long-lasting, the impression left by each sip of this impeccable testimony to its origins is remarkable.
Monumental.
