Wine information
Vindemiatrix is the proper name of the star Epsilon Virginis in the zodiac sign Virgo. To begin the grape harvest, the Romans waited for its appearance in the sky. Hence the Italian word vendemmia for grape harvest or the French vendange. Georg Meissner takes care of his two vineyards, which were originally already to be cleared, with great commitment. The Carignan, planted in 1899, stands on a terrace surrounded by stone walls, rock and forest. The yields are around 9hl/ha.

Nose
If there is an archetypal Carignan scent, it rises from a glass of 2015s Vindemiatrix. Dark fruit of mulberries and dried figs, blackberries and cranberries simmers here, combining with a yeasty note still present, but especially garrigue and dried herbs like sage and thyme, and a light note of salami and black olives.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is immensely juicy, and it has the same spectrum of aromas as in the bouquet. At the same time, the Carignan has an impressively cool and minerally draw. The tannin is ripe but demanding, creating a striking texture. This is a wonderful terroir wine of impressive precision, elegance and a fantastic transparency, a wine that invites you to linger and at the same time has a high drinking flow.
