Wine information
The Ambre Orange 2021 is made from skin-fermented Gewürztraminer from cooler Riquewihr.
Color
brilliant orange
Nose
The Gewürztraminer opens first with a proper reduction. At least at present, the wine should be given plenty of air and time in the carafe. Behind the reduction, notes of yellow and pink roses, acacia blossoms, jasmine, lime blossoms and broom slumber. There are also notes of apricots, nectarines and mirabelles, some ginger and black tea. Behind the aromatics lies a fine ripe sweetness.
Palate
The Ambre Orange fills the mouth and glides gently over the palate. The flow rate here is as low as in an ungraded river. It quickly becomes intense with a dense, intense aroma of apricot jam, just as if the Trapets had used Christine Ferber's Apricots-bergeron jam for this wine. There are also notes of candied ginger and roses. The wine has warmth and a consistency almost like a straw wine, yet it is bone dry, complex and long.
Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt
- Snails and morels, caramelised onions and sabayon of vin jaune
- Roasted saddle of pork, wild garlic polenta, candied leek with bacon
- Fagottini of rutabaga, aubergine pickled in miso with galangal broth
