Souvignier gris

Souvignier Gris is a fungus-resistant white wine variety (PIWI) that was crossed in 1983 at the state viticulture institute in Freiburg from Cabernet Sauvignon and Bronner. The name commemorates the French vine breeder Raymond Souvignier, who developed the first hybrid vines in the 1920s.

The variety produces aromatic, full-bodied white wines with pronounced acidity – stylistically positioned between Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Its fungal resistance allows largely treatment-free cultivation, making it attractive for natural wine estates. In our range we feature Souvignier Gris from M. Schädler - Steffen Mugler from the Palatinate and Franz Keller from Kaiserstuhl.
