Bright lemon yellow, golden and green reflections
Nose
Rich and intense, the fruit pours out of the glass. Enormously generously portioned, the 2021 Wagram Roter Veltliner shows the whole palette of yellow fruits. Mirabelle plum and apricot are advancing. Khaki, clementine as well as some peach round this off. It shows a slightly smoky character. A hint of saffron as well as acacia honey give it spiciness and depth. This oriental touch suits the fruit wonderfully. Dried herbs in the form of marjoram and savory add spicy accents. A breeze of lime zest gives it a nice freshness.
Palate
Already with the first sip, it seamlessly continues the impressions gained. Due to the now more discreet appearance of the fruit, there is plenty of room for its true strength, pure texture. The Red Veltliner plays with a fine extract sweetness. The fruit seems compact, but oily to extroverted. This is countered by plenty of finesse. Accents of wet stones and some smoke. In the middle, it seems very linear. This brings back memories of great wines from limestone soils. A fine acid structure forms a red thread for its sensory course on the palate. The finish is absolutely harmonious. Its fruit remains discreet and well balanced. The herbal aromas and the mix of oriental notes and honey dominate the finish.
