Tasting note from from 25.06.2020, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser
The Rosé de Saignée was born in 1999. The grapes of this cuvée of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris come from Vertus, where they are planted in a plot in mixed vineyard. Grown together, the grapes are spontaneously fermented together in tanks and two concrete eggs after destemming and a two to three day maceration. Then, like all Larmandier-Bernier champagnes, it undergoes malolactic fermentation. After filling in July, the Rosé de Saignée matures for at least another two years before it is disgorged by hand six months before delivery and dosed with a distinctive 3 grams of dosage.

Color

Bright cherry red with brilliant orange reflections.

Nose

Champagne Larmandier-Bernier's Rosé de Saignée is a kaleidoscope for the nose; in dazzling and ever-changing notes, it shows itself exalted, multi-layered and multi-faceted. Rose scent and orange blossom water mingle with mauve and pome fruits like red-cheeked apples. A cascade of cheeky Sicilian blood oranges is intercepted by the patissier, who cooks them into jam to spread on warm yeast rolls. With a flake of butter, of course.

Mouth

On the nose it is juicy with a mouth-lining mousseux of noble gait. Fine bubbly but determined, it makes its way across the palate, driven by extract-rich fruit, firmly coated by the finest phenolic and ripe, juicy acidity. Tartly contoured, its overall perception matches the color - cherry red transparency with an orange twist and elaborate funkyness. Intense with delicate fruit, hedonistic appeal, platform shoes and rhinestones on the canine tooth for sparkle when smiling.
