Wine information
The Pünderich site Marienburg Falkenlay - located between Fahrlay and Rothenpfad - is a south-facing vineyard with mainly grey slate. There is quite a lot of weathered rock with limestone components. After harvesting and sorting, the grapes receive a maceration period and are pressed very slowly with low pressure and fermented spontaneously. The clarification takes place by sedimentation. Apart from small amounts of sulphur, nothing else is added. The maturation takes place in traditional Moselan Fuder barrels of 1,000 liters capacity.
Color
pale straw yellow
Nose
The Marienburg "»Falkenlay" 2018 Riesling opens with a bit of mustard seed, crushed stone with light smoke and flint spice, lanolin, some bacon fat and lots of dried garden herbs. Fruit is hard to find here, except from a brightly citrusy range.
Mouth
On the palate, the Riesling presents itself silky at first, powerful and spicy at the same time with a little sweet and spicy Lardo di Colonnata that melts on the tongue. Then it becomes dry again and even cool in the meantime. The acidity seems a little riper than with the Fahrlaybut is still clear and grippy. The wine has a great inner tension, is full-bodied and compact, long and becomes more and more complex with air and warmth. At the same time, the acidity becomes more lively, clearer and punchier.
