Wine Description for Riesling Lenchen Auslese VDP Grosse Lage 2021 375ml by Peter Jakob Kühn

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, pale golden yellow with brilliant green reflections – a visual promise of freshness and elegance in the glass.
Nose
Captivating aromatics of mango, vineyard peach and ripe apple, interwoven with candied lemon. The fruit abundance merges seamlessly with a pronounced mineral foundation – testament to the iron-rich quartzite soil. An Auslese that, despite its sweetness, never feels ponderous, but instead captivates with crystalline precision.
Palate
Creamy, playful texture with expansive fruit and an acidity structure that lends this noble sweet Auslese tension and drinking flow. The interplay of sweetness and acidity is masterfully balanced – at just 7.5% alcohol, a remarkable achievement. Nothing sticky, nothing intrusive, only pure, invigorating drinking pleasure.
Finish
Long, fresh and mineral-driven. The fruit aromas fade elegantly whilst the acidity provides a refreshing, sustained finish.
Terroir & Origin
The Lenchen in the Rheingau, a vineyard site with gentle south-westerly slope towards the Pfingstbach valley, combines clayey loess with red, iron-rich quartzite veins – hence the historic name „Eiserberg“. The morning mists from the stream create ideal conditions for Botrytis Cinerea, that noble mould which makes concentrated, sweet Auslesen possible in the first place.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling, spontaneously fermented and matured in stainless steel – Peter Jakob Kühn allows the terroir to take precedence. Bottled in spring 2022, this wine already shows accessibility but promises further development with increasing maturity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Classically with dessert, but also surprisingly versatile: burrata tartlet with tomatoes and peach with ginger jelly, spicy prawn, mango and avocado salad with mint and coriander or fresh cheese soufflé on rhubarb and strawberries. Equally appealing with spicy blue cheese.
Special Features
VDP Grosse Lage – the highest quality classification in German viticulture. At just 7.5% alcohol, a prime example of elegant, unobtrusive sweet wine craftsmanship that tempts you to reach for a second glass.
