Nose
The Fediju6erspiel is the entry point into the Wachau quality pyramid. However, the wines of the Nikolaihof do not fit into any grid and live from their independence. This 2021 Federspiel Riesling is no exception. It appears dark, profound and enormously mature. So it's not easy drinking, because it shows ambition and class from the very first moment. Flint, wet slate and a little cold smoke pour out of the glass. In the background, a little mirabelle plum and peach can be detected. It lives on sage and lemon balm as well as coriander and fennel seeds. Yellow peas, some savory and artichoke impart abundant vegetal notes.
Palate
With the first sip, it clarifies these impressions. Its balance and structure are unique. Dense, compact and yet light-footed at the same time. It has a very close-knit structure, combining fruit with its stony, cool components. The ethereal herbal spice gives it many fishy accents. The fruit is much more intense on the palate and rounds it off very harmoniously. In the aftertaste, it is again the herbs along with plenty of lime juice.
